The SDG 4 is, without a doubt, the desire of all young people of the world. While some fight to ensure that right, others want to protect and improve it.
Quality Education is one of the most heard things on the Chilean society on the last few years: “public, free, and quality education” was one of the undisputed slogans of the student’s movement that since 2011 get out on the streets to highlight the topic.
This not only happens on Chile. When the United Nations talks about ““guarantee an inclusive, quality, and equal education and promote learning opportunity during all life for everyone” means the desire of the world. Whether in Sub-Saharan Africa, where half of the children haven’t join the school all over the world, or in developed countries where, even if they have equality in primary school for boys and girls, they haven reach the goal in all educational levels.
““in unequal societies like ours, the quality is related to the context conditions overcoming. In this way is not only necessary to know which establishments have better results but also which ones are able to compensate the student's entry deficits or which ones add more value to the student's initial reality”, said Sergio Martinic, teacher of the Universidad Católica de Chile University. “The quality is related with the 'for what' or that goes far away from the system efficiency achievement, of the cognitive learnings, or the student's future employment insertion” he added.
Only 5 of the 15 selected projects by Concausachoose the SDG 4 as topic. Having in mind what the Martinic teacher said, somehow everybody works around the “context conditionals” on the communities they intervene, even if the point of view is ecological, cultural, identity, of early attention to children whose mothers are in jail, etc. doing their job so the initial reality of the children is enriched by interaction.
We invite you to know more about the projects (Click here!)!), to get involved, interact with your community, and see what you can do so quality education stops being a slogan and starts being a reality.
